DIY Thick Crystal Chain

0
0

I’ve previously done a few DIYs using fake crystal beads, making ice-inspired necklaces and a crystal-style bracelet but this necklace is my new fave. A statement piece using a thick 80′s style ghetto gold chain and sleek fake crystal beads, this necklace is beautiful when layered over bright jewel tones.

Thick Crystal Chain

What you need:

  • Wide gold chain
  • 12 long fake crystal beads
  • 14 big gold jump rings
  • 1 gold spring clasp

Thick Crystal Chain materials

How to:

  1. Starting in the middle of the chain, attach one crystal bead per chain link using a gold jump ring.

    Thick Crystal Chain attaching

  2. Using the two remaining jump rings, attach the spring clasp to either end of the chain.

Thick Crystal Chain clasp

This necklace is so easy to make and can be worn many different ways; the bold thick chain is a contemporary addition to a dressed up look while the sleek crystals also lends the necklace a sophisticated impression.

DIY Embellished Bib Necklace

Last time I used PVC plastic when DIYing, I was collaborating with Sara’s Henna and made a Henna’d Bib Necklace. This time I thought I’d go for a more dramatic look and the results were even better than I expected. Taking inspiration from brands such as Swarovski and Shourouk, this DIY is a perfect cheats version of a statement chunky Hollywood-worthy jewel necklace.

What you need:

  • PVC Plastic
  • 5 types of flat-based crystals (I used a mix of blue, matte silver, clear and black)
  • Gunmetal chain – cut into 2 lengths
  • 3 Jump rings
  • 1 Lobster Clasp
  • Contact Adhesive
  • Scissors
  • Bradawl

Crystal Bib Necklace materials

How to:

  1. Using a marker pen, draw out the below outline of the bib necklace on the PVC and cut it out with a pair of scissors. The bend in the necklace should fit neatly around your neck.Crystal Bib Necklace outline
  2. Using the contact adhesive, glue the flat-based crystals onto the PVC. Mix up the clusters using all the different types of crystals. Leave to dry.Crystal Bib Necklace glued
  3. Using a sharp bradawl, poke two holes in either end of the bib. Hook a jump ring through each hole and attach each to a length of chain.Crystal Bib Necklace details
  4. Attach the remaining two jump rings to the ends of the chains and add the lobster clasp to one of those jump rings.

  4. Leave to dry and add a second coat of spray paint if needed.

Anya Hindmarch Domino Clutch Finished

Even though this clutch looks like it could only contain a couple pieces of gum and my lipstick, it can actually hold a surprising amount. That being said, even it if was absolutely tiny, I’d still love parading it around town. The sleek lines contrast with the fun domino detailing which makes it a great statement clutch to accessorize with.

DIY Chunky Charm Necklace

Sometimes jewellery isn’t simply about rounding off an outfit or simply “bringing it all together”, rather it is the highlight; the show-stopper; the wow factor. Taking inspiration from the 90s retro, cute-chic trend that can be seen on (very) fashionable streets, this necklace is both simple to make and a real winner in the jewellery stakes.

Chunky Charm Necklace_8

What you need:

  • Chunky gold chain
  • Chunky red chain
  • Purple Chain
  • Blue Chain
  • Mix of charms & pendants (lips, hearts, cherries, stars, coins etc)
  • Large gold jump rings
  • Gold spring clasp

Chunky Charm Necklace_1

How to:

  1. Measure out how long you want your necklace (ideally it should sit just below the base of your neck) and cut the gold chain this length. Connect the red, purple and blue chain one end of the gold chain.
    Chunky Charm Necklace_2
  2. Wrap and twist all the chains around each other till you get to the other end of the gold chain and connect the ends of the red, purple and blue chain all together. Cut any slack.
    Chunky Charm Necklace_3
  3. Using the jump rings, attach all the charms and pendants at random along the necklace.
    Chunky Charm Necklace_4
  4. Attach the spring clasp to the ends of the necklace using the gold jump rings.
    Chunky Charm Necklace_5
  5. Make sure all pendants and charms are facing forward and lying flat.

Chunky Charm Necklace_6

I’m loving the unconventional, “so bad it’s good”, over the top, retro feel of this necklace. This show-stopper is eye-catching enough that it works best with neutral colours, a monochrome outfit or classic denim, as demonstrated below. The pop of colours and textures guarantees this necklace getting all the attention and I am loving it.

DIY Ringed Cord Necklace

I really enjoy using cords when it comes to designing jewellery – the interplay between textures and versatility makes it a great material that can be dressed up or down. If you wanted to go bold and bright, you may want to check out the DIY Proenza Schouler inspired necklace, if you wanted something with a bit of edge, you could check out the DIY Zara inspired necklace , if however, you wanted something more minimalist, then today’s DIY might be for you.

Ringed Cord Necklace_6

What you need:

  • Thick Black Cord
  • Mixed Metal Rings – make sure the hole is wide enough for the cord to fit through.
  • Toggle Clasp
  • 2 Jump rings
  • Metal end fastenings
  • Contact Adhesive
  • Scissors
  • Lighter

Ringed Cord Necklace_1

    Ringed Cord Necklace_3

Simple and chic: this minimalist necklace oozes sophistication whilst retaining an element of modernity. Being so simple, it can be easily matched with a number of different trends, thus making it a truly timeless piece.

DIY Monogram Clutch

There’s been a serious trend lately for anything monogrammed. Reminds me of school days when I had to embroider my name into the tags of my clothes…luckily the trend nowadays is significantly more stylish than nylon name tags. I recently saw a collection of wristlet clutches from Anthropologie with initials monogrammed onto the front using quirky beads, rhinestones, metal work. Suffice to say it was “covet at first sight”.

Anthropologie Clutch_5

What you need:

  • Small wristlet bag/clutch
  • Flat-based beads (mix of metal, pearls, crystal)
  • Flat-based rhinestone chain
  • Contact Adhesive

Anthropologie Clutch_1

How to:

  1. Using the contact adhesive, glue the rhinestone chain to your clutch in the shape of the desired initial (in my case, a “V”).
    Anthropologie Clutch_2
  2. Continue gluing the other beads around the rhinestone to bulk it out a little bit. This can call for as much bling expression as you want!
    Anthropologie Clutch_3
  3. Leave to dry.

A truly simple DIY that can turn a bag from plain to personalized – this way I don’t have to worry about someone else “borrowing” my stuff like in school!….that is, unless their name starts with a V too….

DIY with Crystal Beads

DIY with crystal beads tutorial

Something as versatile as these crystal beads are an absolute DIY favourite of mine. It’s amazing the different projects you can undertake with a material as simple as these beads. Sleek, chic, elegant with a touch of understated glamour: this post is going to give you the tip of the iceberg of inspiration when it comes to styling these fab little jewels.

Elastic Beaded Bracelet

DIY Elastic Crystal Bracelet

Unbelievably simple, all you need are beads and elastic fishing wire. Measure out 10-12″ of wire, thread the beads, tie a knot and trim the excess. Easy or what?!

Vintage-inspired Cocktail Ring

DIY Vintage Crystal Ring

Using gold jewellery wire, thread the bead and hold it on the top of the ring. Carefully wind the gold wire along one side of the ring and tightly secure with a pair of pliers. Repeat with the other side.

Chunky Chain & Bead Bracelet

DIY Chunky Chain Bead Bracelet

Mixing the textures of crystal and metal, this chunky bracelet is deceptively easy to make. Thread the beads onto a length of fishing wire and secure each end with a clam shell bead tip. Hook the beaded section onto the gold chain using jump rings and a lobster clasp.

DIY with Crystal Beads

Worn on its own or stacked together, any one of these fab DIYs are guaranteed to become part of your regular wardrobe rotation. Pairing the contemporary Chunky bracelet with the elegant Elastic Bead Bracelet and the vintage-inspired ring may seem a contradiction of styles, however, the consistency of those crystal beads makes it work.

So tell me, how would you DIY these gorgeous little beads?

DIY Easter Eggs

For those of you with little ones running around this Easter weekend, you might fancy organising a little DIY session followed by an Easter Egg Hunt with the kids! If you also happen to be a big kid like me, then this DIY will be right up your street! These decorating ideas take standard Easter eggs from ordinary to “eggcellent”!

DIY Easter Egg

What you need:

  • Blown out hollow eggs - to do this you must thoroughly clean the outside of the eggs with washing liquid, punch a hole in the top and bottom using a sharp pointed awl, then blow the insides out into a separate bowl. Rinse and leave to dry.
  • Permanent Markers
  • Glitter Nail Polish
  • Contact Adhesive
  • Feathers
  • Embroidery Thread
  • Sequins
  • Spray Paint – always spray in a well ventilated area over newspaper

DIY Easter Eggs

  • White on Eggshell

DIY White Patterned Easter EggSimply use a white permanent marker to draw designs on the egg shell. Simple, chic, elegant and earthy.

  • Glitter

DIY Glitter Easter Eggs

Using the glitter nail polish, paint 2-3 layers on the shell and leave to dry. A handheld disco ball – perfect for the drama queens.

  • Rainbow Threading

DIY Rainbow Easter Eggs

Using the contact adhesive, wrap and glue the rainbow embroidery thread around the shell, be careful not to crack the surface. Leave to dry. This is an egg that is straight out of Rainbow Brite’s dreams.

  • Birds of a Feather

DIY Feather Easter Egg

What better way to pay tribute to the hen that laid the egg than by decorating it with feathers. Quirky and fun, I opted for a tri-coloured egg.

  • Striped Dye

DIY Dyed Easter Egg

Wrap some string around the middle of the egg in a relatively haphazard way, then using the spray paint, spray the colour evenly over the egg. Leave to dry. Simple yet eye-catching!

DIY Easter Eggs tutorial

Chocolate, hot cross buns, long weekend and (fingers crossed) gorgeous sunny days – Easter weekend is filled with plenty of indulgence and fun. These DIY eggs are sure to add to the themed festivities and whether making them, hiding them for little hands to find or hunting for them – they are guaranteed to bring smiles to many!

Happy Easter everyone.

DIY Balmain-inspired PVC Cuff

Accessorizing the catwalk at Balmain’s SS14 show were these stunning PVC chained belts. Bold, bright and beautiful; these belts bring back the fabulous 80s and I can’t resist taking inspiration for a little DIY project of my own.

Balmain SS14 Belt

Balmain SS14 PVC Belt – image from dazeddigital.com

I don’t tend to wear a lot of belts, so I decided to downsize slightly and make an eye-catching PVC chained cuff instead. This project can be time-consuming as it involves a lot of repetitive hand-stitching, if you just put on an episode of something; the time will fly by and you’ll be done before you know it!

DIY Balmain PVC Cuff

What you need:

  • PVC – cut into a thick rectangle that measures around your wrist.
  • Black thread
  • Bronze chain
  • Thick gold chain
  • Thin black ribbon
  • Sharp & thick sewing needle
  • Leather hole puncher
  • Scissors

Balmain PVC Cuff Material

Tutorial:

  1. Using the leather hole puncher, punch 6 sets of holes on either end of the PVC.
  2. Thread the black ribbon through the bottom pair of holes on one side of the PVC.
    Balmain PVC Cuff_1
  3. Using the needle and black thread, begin to sew the chain to the edge of the PVC. Secure at the end with a knot.
    Balmain PVC Cuff_2
  4. Repeat with the other side.
    Balmain PVC Cuff_3
  5. Using the needle and black thread, loosely attach the gold chain to the middle of the PVC, by stitching either end of the chain to the cuff.
    Balmain PVC Cuff_4

This eye-catching cuff perfectly compliments black lace and contrasts beautifully against bright Spring colours. A great stand-alone piece that channels the flashy fun of (one of my favourite brands) Balmain’s SS14 look without having to steady yourself for the inevitable price tag!

DIY Chanel inspired Keychain

It would appear that not only am I taking inspiration from the SS14 Chanel catwalk, but Chanel took some serious arts ‘n crafts inspiration for some of their SS14 accessories. Merging grunge, school-yard punk and hippie chic with high fashion, Karl Lagerfeld transformed the Chanel classics into on-trend staples, such as their tie dye chained backpack below.

Chanel SS14 Backpack

That being said, as much as I would love to DIY a backpack for myself, my latest mantra has been to downsize and limit my (already limited) wardrobe space to the essentials. Sorry tie-dye backpack – just not essential enough! However, I absolutely love the woven chain detailing, the hodge-podge thrown-togetherness of the accessories that so remind me of my ’90s school days. And seeing as how my latest trusty keychain had slightly fallen apart after so many faithful years of service, I figured it was the perfect opportunity to fashion myself a new keychain inspired by the grungy-chicness of Chanel.

DIY Chanel Keychain

What you need:

  • Carabiner clasp
  • Mixed cords
  • Mixed embroidery thread
  • 2-3 Jump rings
  • Crystal or Pom Poms or Small crochet dolls
  • Scissors
  • Super glue

DIY Chanel Keychain what you need

Tutorial:

  1. Thread the crystal (or pom poms etc) and knot onto a jump ring. Secure knot with a drop of super glue.
    DIY Chanel Keychain_crystal
  2. Lay the mixed cords and threads together and thread through a jump ring. Braid the cords and threads until it forms a long thick braid. Secure knot with a drop of super glue.
    DIY Chanel Keychain Braid
  3. Take a thread and wrap over a corner of the carabiner clasp. Secure knot with a drop of super glue.
    DIY Chanel Keychain Carabiner
  4. Place the crystal and braid onto the carabiner and attach your keys to the spare jump ring.

DIY Chanel Keychain tutorialThis keychain is really easy to make and really easy to personalize – it’s as versatile as you can get! Whether you’re feeling generous or feeling selfish, this little accessory can brighten up your bag or make a great gift for a friend…and all inspired by super chic Chanel! I love it!

DIY Neon Figurines

Franc Franc has got to be one of my favourite stores in Hong Kong, originally from Japan, this home-ware store focuses on eye-catching pieces that accentuate the simplistic. Their designs tend to embody that stereotypical quirky Japanese edge with a hint of girly fun – which is obviously right up my street! They had these cute animal figurines in the kids section and being the big kid I am, I was utterly obsessed with them. I had to DIY some for myself!

Neon Figurines_4

One of the things I love about DIYing is making items that are both thrifty and personalised, case in point – these neon animal figurines! This DIY makes a big impact and you still get to pinch the pennies (ideal!)

What you need:

  • Spray paint (white and your selected colour)
  • Plastic animal figurines (you can find these in $-stores or toy shops)
  • Newspaper
  • Contact Adhesive

Neon Figurines_1

Time to DIY

Lay out some newspaper and spray your figurines with the white spray first, leave to dry. Spray with white so that the colour spray paint will cover the figurines more evenly. (you may have to spray more than once!

Neon Figurines_2

Spray the figurines with the colour spray paint (again, you may have to spray more than once!) Leave to dry.
Neon Figurines_3

Once the figurines are dry you can use them to accentuate all sorts of home-furnishings

Neon Figurines_5

They’re eye-catching enough on their own but why not try gluing a figure on top of a special block photoframe!? You can glue a figure to a simple glass dish (again from a $-store) to make a funky jewellery holder. If you’re looking to DIY a cute table decoration then glue a figurine to a large jar (time to hit up the $-store again!) and fill the jar with all sorts – flowers, petals, ribbons, pebbles, marbles…endless possibilites! This type of table decoration can accentuate any kind of event, from a birthday dinner to baby shower!

DIY floral box_feature

I really hate clutter and I’m always on the lookout for neat, tidy and stylish storage tips that can help make my space a little cuter and more organised (hello Pinterest!) So, anyone who’s read All Things Indulgent before will also know that I am a huge fan of the perspex trend – from clutches to cuffs, necklaces to phone covers, it’s clear to see (pardon the pun!) I am a lover of transparent goodies. So, imagine my own surprise when I realised I’ve never actually DIYed a perspex box into its original purpose – a fab storage box! These compact, clear cases are the ideal jewellery box – lightweight, versatile and transparent…which means no more rooting around in drawers trying to figure out which ring is where!

flower box_1

Bead Box,
